SUMMARY:Fill out the Hazard Mitigation Plan Survey
DESCRIPTION:Town of Littleton Hazard Mitigation Plan UpdatePublic Survey \nThe Town of Littleton experiences natural hazard impacts including flooding\, winter storms\, droughts\, and increasingly frequent and severe storms. To prepare for these hazards and make Littleton more resilient\, the Town is updating its 2017 Hazard Mitigation Plan. Here’s a brief introduction to the plan: \nOverview of Hazard Mitigation Plans \n\nThe Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 seeks to have all communities prepare local Hazard Mitigation Plans\nThe plan is intended to provide resilience from natural hazards before a disaster strikes the community.\nFEMA requires that plans be updated every five years to reflect current conditions and local priorities\nAn approved plan is required for Littleton to apply for FEMA grants that can fund mitigation projects\n\nWhat are the natural hazards addressed by Littleton’s plan? \n\nFlooding hazards\nWind hazards (thunderstorms\, hurricanes\, tornadoes)\nWinter hazards (blizzards\, ice storms\, nor’easters) \nGeologic hazards (earthquakes\, landslides)\nWildfires (brushfires\, forest fires)\nExtreme temperatures\nDrought\n\nWhat is Hazard Mitigation?Hazard Mitigation includes a wide range of activities that Littleton can undertake\, including: \n\nPrevention (planning and zoning to keep development “out of harms way.”)\nProperty Protection (building elevation\, flood and wind-proofing buildings)\nPublic Education (public outreach to increase awareness of hazards and mitigating them)\nProtect Natural Resources (wetlands\, floodplains that serve to buffer flood and storm events.) \nStructural Projects (culverts\, stormwater drainage\, pumps\, dams) \nEmergency Services Protection (protection of emergency facilities & infrastructure\n\nWe want to hear from you! \nThe Town of Littleton is conducting this survey to ensure that its plan addresses the concerns of local residents and businesses. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete\, and it will be open until January 31\, 2024. \nThank you for your participation!
